As Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed over 51,000 appointment letters under the Rozgar Mela initiative, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday praised the government’s efforts to boost employment and highlighted India’s steady march toward becoming a “Viksit Bharat.”

Speaking at a Rozgar Mela event in Mohali, Puri noted that since the BJP government came to power in 2014, more than 9.25 lakh appointment letters have been distributed. “PM Modi issued appointment letters to 51,000 people across 47 locations in the country. Since 2014, over 9.25 lakh jobs have been created. In the larger context, we are on a journey toward Viksit Bharat. According to the IMF, India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world today,” Puri said.

Turning to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, Puri squarely blamed Pakistan for the incident. He reiterated PM Modi’s warning that Pakistan would “pay a heavy price” for supporting cross-border terrorism. “The Pahalgam incident is unequivocally a cross-border terrorist attack unleashed by a neighbouring state. No business will continue as usual. Like PM Modi said, Pakistan will have to pay a heavy price — and this is just the beginning,” he asserted.

Puri also condemned Pakistan’s deteriorating global standing, stating, “Pakistan is not just a rogue state, it is a country in terminal decline.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi, while virtually addressing the Rozgar Mela, underlined how initiatives like ‘Make in India’ would empower MSMEs and open new avenues of employment. “This budget introduces a manufacturing mission aimed at promoting ‘Make in India’ and giving our youth the opportunity to produce globally competitive products. This will boost lakhs of MSMEs and small entrepreneurs while creating jobs across the country,” PM Modi said.

The Union Budget 2025 has also raised investment and turnover thresholds for MSME classification and introduced customized credit cards with a credit limit of up to Rs 5 lakh to further support small businesses.
